New Site on the block

Marginal Designs has teamed up with some friends to build and operate a new site: http://www.onlyinpgh.com!  From the about page:

Only In Pittsburgh is a project by and for the citizens of the Steel City, and our aim is to showcase all the quirkiness, splendor and sheer ridiculousness our town has to offer.  We want to capture all that makes Pittsburgh the unique place that it is, ranging from the grandeur of the inclines and the quaintness of a pierogie-making shop to the monstrous potholes in our streets and the questionable fashion sense of our people. In essence, yinz know it when yinz see it.

Where does our content come from? You. We look for pictures on Flickr, post those we’ve taken ourselves and put up other items of interest, but we also depend on you to send in your best shots and observations of the Burgh. If you have a photo or anything else you’d like to share, send it to submit [at] onlyinpgh [dot] com. Please make sure to let us know who to credit it to, your website (if applicable), the location in Pittsburgh, and a caption.

We look forward to hearing from you, and, of course, Go Steelers.

Let us know what you think!

Results, New Poll!

Here are the results from the favorite Pittsburgh landmark poll!

poll

As you can see, the Cathedral of Learning ran away with it, followed by the Downtown Skyline, the Incline(s), and a tie for fourth between the Point and the Smithfield Street Bridge.

Thanks for voting!

Shout out to Bricks and Boxes

Last Friday at Blogfest we found out a couple friends of ours have started a new blog, Bricks and Boxes.  Right now it’s a “whatever strikes our fancy” kind of blog that’s written well, run by good people who are fans of Myers-Briggs personality profiles, and so far has been updated daily.  That’s something I admire greatly, although if I tried it I’d last all of three days before I started just typing random words that popped in my head.

Also, keep checking back this week for some big news!

Shirts are in!

The shipment of Wiggin shirts just came in, and orders will be shipped tomorrow. To stick with our goal of being environmentally responsible, the shirts will be packaged in a 100% biodegradable plastic bag and a recyclable manila envelope.

Thanks to everyone who ordered shirts!  For those who haven’t yet, check out the products page.  We’ll also be adding another design in the next few weeks, so be on the lookout!

New Poll!

We have a new poll up over on the sidebar: Which local newscaster would you like to see on a t-shirt?

Since it’s hard to narrow it down to one, you can choose up to 3 nominees.  Let us know who you’d like to see on our next shirt!  If we left out your favorite, drop a comment below.

Show your love for Sally!

The site is up and orders can be placed on our Products Page!  The shirts will be shipped within 7-10 business days.  In the meantime, check out the site and let us know what you think!

Site building, shirts, etc…

Welcome to Marginal Designs!

First, a little blurb about who we are from the “About” page:

Marginal Designs is a scrappy, part-time, un-funded startup offering graphic and web design consulting services…and a sweet t-shirt. Our mission is to make Pittsburgh a better place by raising the bar on website design and our vision is to be driven out of business someday by vastly more talented competitors. And when it comes down to it, that really shouldn’t be too hard — we’re not experts, we’re just a couple of people who like to tinker.

Here’s what’s going on:

  • The site is under construction!  If you have any ideas or otherwise, comment below!
  • Right now I’m looking for two things: 1) a t-shirt manufacturer that is non-sweatshop, made in america, eco-friendly, and not sexist d-bags (read: not American Apparel), and 2) a local printer willing to use them!

When I get it figured out, I’ll post here and the shop will be active.  If you want to be notified via email, fill out the contact form and I’ll drop you a message.
